Japan resumes e-visas for Dubai residents
VFS global to handle visa applications., while those residing in Abu Dhabi need to still apply through the embassy.
Dubai: Exciting news for UAE residents! The much-awaited e-visa service is set to resume bringing convenience back to travel planning. However, there's a change in how to apply.
Starting from August 1, 2024, all short and long-term paper visa applications for Japanese travel will be processed through VFS Global.
The resumption of the e-visa system is a significant relief for UAE residents who faced challenges with the previous appointment-based process. The online application and payment options offered by the e-visa were highly popular before its suspension in April 2024.
Residents were known to be struggling to get appointment slots. Emiratis were still able to visit the country without a visa.
VFS partnership
The Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai confirmed the shift, emphasizing that they will no longer accept direct visa applications, except for diplomatic and official ones.
VFS Global will now be the official partner of the Embassy of Japan in the UAE and the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai for visa services. This partnership aims to streamline the application process and reduce processing times.
Visa application details
Processing time: The standard processing period for visa applications is 8 working days, provided all required documents are submitted correctly.
E-visa eligibility: Residents from countries including Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, UAE, the UK, and the USA are eligible for the e-visa for tourism purposes.
Visa validity: The short-term e-visa allows a 90-day stay in Japan and is valid for three months from the issuance date.
Important note: The move only applies to residents in Dubai. Those residing in Abu Dhabi need to still apply through the embassy.
